Period-Correct Components
We don’t cut corners. From sand-cast Alnico magnets and vintage-spec Formvar or Plain Enamel wire, to traditional push-back cloth cables and nickel-silver covers and bases. Every material is selected to guarantee the authentic look, feel, and sound of rock ‘n’ roll history.
Alnico Magnets
The magnets used in our pickups are made of premium Alnico, a specialized aluminum, nickel, and cobalt alloy. Depending on the exact blend of these elements, Alnico yields distinct tonal characteristics. To capture every historical nuance, we craft our pickups using custom-charged Type II, III, IV, and V magnets.
Forbon Bobbins
True vintage bobbins are assembled by hand, pressing the Alnico magnets directly into historical Forbon flatwork to form a rock-solid, single structure. Before the winding process begins, each bobbin is carefully lacquered to insulate the magnets and protect the copper coil for decades.
Vintage cooper wire
While modern wire is common today, the legendary pickups of the 50s and 60s relied on Heavy Formvar and Plain Enamel (42 and 43 AWG). We source these exact specs to recreate authentic Strat, Tele, PAF, and P90 tones, while using Poly-nylon wire for our more modern pickup designs.
Wax potting
Winding techniques trigger great debates, but durability matters. Our pickups receive a controlled bath in our custom beeswax and paraffin blend to eliminate microphonic feedback and seal the coil. However, purists can request them ‘unpotted’ for the most historically accurate PAF experience.
Guitar & Bass Heritage
Crafting historically accurate pickups for Strat, Tele, Jazzmaster, P90, PAF humbuckers, and classic p-Bass, J-Bass models, etc … and with modern specifications too. Ask us if you can’t find what you’re looking for; we have some surprises that aren’t on the website.
